TekIT Out

About
The NTRC has always prioritized affordable and quality STEAM (science, technical, engineering, arts and math) education aimed at levelling the playing field for Dominica’s youth to pursue technical careers in the international arena. Digital literacy is a fundamental and essential skill for our students to be future-ready. As such, we are pleased to invite applications for its first ever tech summer camp, tekIT Out 2022! We have recruited passionate and qualified professionals in their respective fields who are eager to share their knowledge with our students.
Overview
tekIT Out aims to inspire Dominica’s next generation of engineers, programmers and creators in realizing their full potential regardless of background and experience. Each course will focus on not only key concepts but will also provide an opportunity for students to convert their knowledge into real-life projects. This method of hands-on project-based learning will build student’s confidence and competence in interacting with digital technologies
Curriculum
We have constructed a intuitive and fun-filled curriculum that encompasses various aspects of technology and creativity.

This course uses a form on block-based programming to create interactive stores, games and animation with Scratch. Scratch is a free platform and online community developed by MIT to teach the basics of programming and logical thinking to kids without having to write any lines of code.
- App Development

App development is one of the most desirable skills in today’s society and this course aims to provide a solid foundation for a career in the field. Students will learn how to build apps using a simple and free block-based platform from MIT called App Inventor 2. This easy-to-use platform allows students to gain a practical understanding of programming concepts while building and creating Android Apps from scratch which can be published to the Google Play Store.
- Coding

This course introduces students to one of the most popular programming languages. Python is the language of choice for many modern data science and web development projects. Students will learn fundamental concepts such as functions, loops, operators and data structures.
- Graphic Design

Producing visual content can be a daunting task. Students will learn simple design theory to produce custom visual media using Canva. Canva is a free alternative to expensive graphic design software that allows users to produce stunning work from a user-friendly interface.
- Physical Computing/Robotics

This course combines engineering and scientific data analysis as students will build and calibrate a working robotic hand and sensor glove.
- Video Production

Video content dominates many platforms by providing an engaging way to entertain, educate or persuade audiences. This course aims to provide beginners with a basic introduction to video production which will enable them to create video content with Davinci Resolve. In addition, students will learn a wealth of filming techniques and tips to transform stories to video format.
- Web Design

Creating beautiful and professional websites has never been easier. In this course, students are introduced to one of the most common web design platforms, WordPress. From navigating the dashboard to installing themes and adding content, students will be well on their way to creating customized websites for their personal portfolios or blogs, or businesses.
